[Sunday] Mustard, Yeast, & Weeds - Kingdom Way - Matthew 13

The kingdom of heaven is like: Mustard of unexpected value, Yeast of transformative grace, and the surprising truth that weeds may be the pearl of great price. Matthew Chapter 13

- The kingdom of heaven is like: Mustard of unexpected value, Yeast of transformative grace, and the surprising truth that weeds may be the pearl of great price. Matthew Chapter 13

Questions for the Week: Kingdom Way: Mustard, Yeast, & Weeds

  1. Can you think of something in your own life that seemed negative or difficult at the time, but later turned out to be a blessing?

  2. Read Matthew 13. Thinking about the parable of the weeds, have you ever been tempted to judge someone quickly, thinking they were a "weed"? Why is it important to be patient and let God be the judge?

  3. The treasure and the pearl parables show how valuable the Kingdom of God is. If you had to choose one thing you'd be willing to give up for something truly important, what would it be and why? What does that say about what we value most?

  4. How does it make you feel to know that you are so treasured and the pearl that Jesus sought? How should that change the way you think about yourself and others?

[Sunday] Here’s Your Sign - Kingdom Way - Matthew 12

Jesus' miracles and teachings are clear signs of God's kingdom breaking in, but will we recognize them and demand for a sign. Matthew Chapter 12

- Jesus' miracles and teachings are clear signs of God's kingdom breaking in, but will we recognize them and demand for a sign. Matthew Chapter 12

Questions for the Week: Kingdom Way: Here’s Your Sign

  1. Remember those old classic  "Here's Your Sign" Jokes , what's a time you felt like the answer to a question or problem was incredibly obvious, but someone else completely missed it? How did you handle that situation?

  2. Read Matthew 12.  Have you ever been so focused on rules or traditions that you missed the bigger picture of showing love and mercy to others? How can we put people over things in our daily lives?

  3. Jonah was reluctant to speak to Ninevites because he was afraid of God’s mercy.  Jesus speaks of the sign of Jonah.  How does understanding the story of Jonah help you see Jesus’ grace more in your life for you?

Email from FL-GA District President About LSF

District President James Rocky has written a letter addressing the recent false claims against LSF.

Lutheran Services Florida: A Valued Partner Committed to Service and Integrity

Recent claims on social media have called into question the work of Lutheran Services Florida ("LSF"), prompting the nced for clarification and a reaffimation of its longstanding commitment to serving Florida's communities. As a Recognized Service Organization ("RSO") of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod ("LCMS"), LSF has faithfully carried out its mission for more than 40 years, guided by its commitment to "Bringing healing, hope, and help in the name of Jesus Christ."

LSF plays a vital role in strengthening families and communities across Florida, providing essential services that impact one in 5O Floridians annually. These services include child case management, mental health and substance abuse treatment, Head Start early childhood education, and refugee resettlement assistance. From its inception, LSF has been deeply involved in resettlement efforts, ensuring that those who are legally admitted to the country receive the resources and support necessary to build stable and self-sufficient lives.

LSF's dedication to serving vulnerable populations has been recognized at the national level. In 2024, Lutheran Services in America awarded LSF President and CEO Sam Sipes the Micah Award for his leadership, particularly in expanding LSF's Head Start program, which has provided invaluable early cducation opportunities to families in need.

Additionally, in 2007, LSF was named a "Finalist" for Top Non-Profit of the Year, highlighting its impact in refugee resettlement and other critical areas of community service. These recognitions reflect the organization's integrity, transparency, and dedication to serving those in need.

Recent allegations regarding LSF's work with refugees and immigration misrepresent the facts. It is important to be clear:

  • LSF only assists individuals who are assigned to it by Federal or State authorities.

  • Funding for its refugee programs comes primarily from federal and state contracts and is used to serve individuals with legal status, such as those under Temporary Protected Status (TPS).

  • LSF operates strictly within the parameters of its contracts to assist individuals legally assigned to its care.

The accusation of "money laundering" is completely unfounded and without basis in fact. While LSF, like many nonprofit organizations, has faced budget challenges including staff reductions due to state funding changes; there is no evidence of corruption or financial misconduct. LSF remains a trusted partner of both state and federal agencies and is consistently sought out for its strong record of compliance and excellence in social service delivery. In addition, they remain a valued partner with the Florida Georgia District and we rejoice in the privilege of working together for the sake of our communities and asa witness of Christ's love.

The work of LSF is not political; it is a reflection of Christ's command to love and serve our neighbors. As the FLGA District, our mission is first and foremost the proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ for life and salvation. In following this mission, we live by the words of Scripture

"Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength... and "Love your neighbor as yourself." (Mark 12:30-31)

Caring for those in need is a fundamental expression of our faith, and LSF continues to fulfill this calling while fully adhering to the laws of the land.

LSF remains a mission-driven organization, dedicated to serving Florida's most vulnerable individuals and families with integrity, compassion, and accountability.

I ask for your continued prayers for our ministry partner, LSF, that God may bless and sustain their work. Let us remain stead fast in our mission, knowing that:

"Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me." (Matthew 25:40)

May we stand firm in truth and love, supporting those who dedicate their lives to serving others in Christ's name,

Rev. James H. Rockey, President The Florida-Georgia District

Grace Advocating for Alzheimer's in Florida

The 2025 Advocacy Trip to Tallahassee

This week, Ed and Pastor Cris had the privilege of traveling with Alzheimer’s Community Care to advocate for Alzheimer’s care in Florida.

This is ACC message.

The 2025 Advocacy Trip to Tallahassee was amazing!
We had 22 advocates meet with legislators to educate on the needs of patients and caregivers affected by Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders. Our caregivers shared stories from their journey and imparted how critical dementia-specific services are for families. They also explained the impact Alzheimer’s Community Care has had to help them care for their loved ones.

Here is Pastor Cris’ team. Sharon is from Ft. Pierce, and her father was in one of the ACC centers for five years. This enabled her to work during this time.

The other two are from Messiah Tampa. Hopefully, they will open ACC’s newest center in the next year. Yes, the tall guy is Pastor Cris’ friend Mark.

Ed was stationed at a table near the entrance of the capital, where he met individuals arriving for business. He also had the chance to engage with elected officials and share his story.

[Sunday] My Yoke is Rest - Kingdom Way - Matthew 11

There are just so many burdens we are yoked to, but Jesus offers a different way, a kingdom of love and rest. Take on His Yoke of Rest. Matthew Chapter 11

- There are just so many burdens we are yoked to, but Jesus offers a different way, a kingdom of love and rest. Take on His Yoke of Rest. Matthew Chapter 11

Questions for the Week: Kingdom Way: My Yoke is Rest

  1. Can you think of a time when you felt tempted to respond to a situation with anger or retaliation instead of love and forgiveness?

  2. Read Matthew 11.  Why do you think John the Baptist doubted Jesus while he was in prison? What were his expectations for the Messiah?

  3. What does it mean that 'the least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he' (Matthew 11:11)? How does this challenge our own understanding of greatness?

  4. What does it practically mean to "take Jesus' yoke" upon you? What might that look like in your daily interactions?

[Sunday] Cool Cup of Water - Kingdom Way - Matthew 10

Jesus sends out the disciples amidst a flurry of expectations. But these serious expectations can bring the heat which only a cool cup of water can satisfy.  Matthew Chapter 10

- Jesus sends out the disciples amidst a flurry of expectations. But these serious expectations can bring the heat which only a cool cup of water can satisfy.  Matthew Chapter 10

Questions for the Week: Kingdom Way: Cool Cup of Water

  1. How does the image of a 'cold glass of water' resonate with you? Have you ever experienced something similar to that kind of refreshing change?"

  2. Read Matthew 10.  The text addresses the seemingly contradictory messages of peace and division. How do you reconcile the idea of following Jesus with the potential for conflict or hardship?

  3. Read Micah 7:1-9.  This is quoted in Matthew 10:35.  How does this relate to the challenges of following Jesus in His mission? How can we maintain our relationship with God even when facing opposition or division within our families?

  4. The sermon concludes by encouraging listeners to offer a "cold cup of water" to others. What does it look like in practical terms to offer compassion and hope to a hurting world in your own context?

[Sunday] Only Jesus Can Save Them - Kingdom Way

Jesus does not become unclean by touching the afflicted; instead, HE imparts healing and life. It shows the kingdom is for everyone.  Matthew Chapters 8-9

- Jesus does not become unclean by touching the afflicted; instead, HE imparts healing and life. It shows the kingdom is for everyone.  Matthew Chapters 8-9

Questions for the Week: Only Jesus Can Save Them - The Kingdom Way

  1. Who are the people we have difficulty with Jesus loving today?  How does the grace of Jesus challenge those perceptions?

  2. Read Matthew 9:9-13, 18-26. The examples of the woman with the bleeding disorder and the dead girl illustrate how Jesus imparts healing and life instead of becoming "unclean." What does this image tell us about the nature of Jesus's power and His kingdom?

  3. The repeated phrase "Only Jesus can save them…you…me" was a key takeaway in the sermon.. What does "salvation" mean to you personally, and how have you experienced or witnessed this saving power in your own life or the lives of others?

  4. How can we better reflect Jesus's example of reaching out to the "wrong people" in our community?

Haiti 4X4 Fundraiser

Raising money for a 4×4 in Haiti

We and many other churches are raising money to purchase a 4x4 vehicle for Habitat for Children in Haiti. This truck is necessary for transportation to many of the locations where we minister. It will also function as an ambulance, especially for transporting expectant mothers to the clinic and care center.

The vehicle costs $30,000.

This price represents good value. The truck is currently in Haiti and is common there, which helps save on importation fees. Additionally, mechanics in Haiti are familiar with repairing these trucks, and parts are readily available. Previous attempts to bring trucks from the US into Haiti have proven costly due to high import fees and the fact that local mechanics often lack the knowledge to repair those vehicles.

[Sunday] The Kingdom Way - Sermon on the Mount

From the mount, Jesus reveals the Kingdom Way. "Blessed are the poor in spirit," He proclaims, urging us to "turn the other cheek," and to pray, "Father, Your will be done." For His kingdom is at hand, and through Him, we find the Golden Way.

Questions for the Week: The Kingdom Way - The Sermon on the Mount

  1. What does the phrase "Thy Kingdom Come, Thy Will Be Done" mean to you personally? How can we invite God’s kingdom into our daily lives?

  2. Read Matthew 5:1-12. The sermon on the mount emphasized the Beatitudes as blessings for the "poor in spirit," the grieving, and the meek. How does this understanding of the kingdom challenge traditional ideas of power and success?

  3. The sermon contrasted different approaches to bringing about God's kingdom (Pharisees, Sadducees, Rome). In your own life, what are some "modern-day" equivalents of these approaches where we try to cover up our insufficiencies to make ourselves look more powerful?  Why ultimately is there no hope in this approach?

  4. Jesus calls us to be salt and light, bringing His kingdom to others. Who in our lives might be like the “little children”-- those feeling scared or lost? How can we bring God’s love and balance to them this week?

New Song, All Glory to Our Lord and God

And New Hymn by Koine

Here is Grace’s Recording for Sunday

(just a heads up, It will probably be a bit faster on sunday)

From Koiné's 5th album, The Vine. All Glory to Our Lord and God offers an upbeat, modern, arrangement of a traditional Christian hymn. This hymn arrangement is actually a combination of several other Christian hymns of worship and praise.

  • The lyrics of verse 1 are taken from the 6th verse of "O Love, How Deep, How Broad, How High" by Thomas á Kempis.

  • The lyrics of verse 2 and 3 are from "Lord of All Nations, Grant Me Grace" by Olive Wise Spannaus.

  • And finally, the lyrics of verse 4 are from "Lord Jesus Christ, Be With Us Now" by Johannes Olearius.

  • The background symbol is well known in Christianity as the symbol of the Holy Trinity.

On January 12th 2025 we are singing
All Glory to Our Lord and God

1. All glory to our Lord and God

For love so deep, so high, so broad,

The Trinity whom we adore

Forever and forevermore.

2. Forgive me, Lord, where I have erred

By loveless act and thoughtless word.

Make me to see the wrong I do

Will hurt my neighbor, Lord, and you.

3. With your own love may I be filled

And by your Holy Spirit willed,

That all I touch, whate'er I do.

May be divinely touched by you.

4. To God the Father, God the Son,

And God the Spirit, Three in One,

Shall glory, praise, and honor be

Now and throughout eternity.

Listen to the Orginal.
